Datasheet links for Ronja

Photodetectors

• HSDL 5420 and HSDL 5400 detectors from Agilent Semiconductors. They differ only in the angle. It looks like HSDL5420 is more suitblae. I have tested both of them.
• SFH203 (clear package) and SFH203F (with filter -- not suitable for 625 nm!) photodetectors from Infineon (former Siemens).

Emitters

• HSDL4220 and HSDL4230 emitter -- emit at 875 nm, which is infrared.
• HPWT-BD00, HPWT-DD00, HPWT-BH00, HPWT-DH00 -- LEDs with punch. Emit at 625nm (red-orange) and red (some more nanometres) visible light. Good as Ronja 10M Metropolis emitter.

Integrated IR transceivers

• HSDL1001 transceiver. Suitable for Ronja -- Cheap (as can go only at 115200 bps and doesn't have the integrated EMI shield). The transmitter is not usable in Ronja. Works as and integrated receiver that generates directly TTL-level pulses on the output.

Integrated analogue circuits

• NE592 Video Amplifier -- fast and cheap amplifier suitable just for Ronja. Has got differential output which is the best for the following comparator.
• LM319 -- a fast and cheap comparator
• 26LS32A - a fast line receiver with 50mV input hysteresis.
• NE521 - a fast comparator.
• I have no datasheet for MAC 160, but know that it's equivalent is LM160, whose datasheet is here.

Digital IC's

• HSDL7000 -- not much cheap IC that does interface between NRZ signal from RS232 (but in 5V levels) to the IrDA SIR modulation pulses. Needs a clock.
• MAX 232. Interface between RS232 (+/- 12V levels) and 5V levels. Uses only a single 5V power supply and generates the necessary levels internally by pumping electrons over capacitors.

Discrete parts

• BF988 / BF998 (they differ only in the package) -- low-noise RF Dual-gate MOS transistors used as the input stage of the preamplifier due to their low noise, low input capacitance and low reverse-transfer capacitance.
• BF 907 pinout.

Where to get the stuff

Optics

The lenses: Chinese "Baloon" manufactures 75mm, 90mm and 110mm dia. relatively cheap lenses made of glass that are slightly bluishly glaucous.

New (26th August 2001): Glass loupes up to 100mm dia. can be obtained for 60CZK at various bazaars in Prague.

Czech firm Eopta makes credit-card sized Fresnel lenses that look like this.

You can buy magnificient A4-sized lenses at Edmund Scientific. These may be obtaines also at optician's or a shop for sight-impaired people (used for enlarging whole pages of text).

You can get A4-sized fresnel lens for 220CZK at Sight-impaired shop Tyflopomucky Olomouc in Czech Republic. They also send it by mail. The loupe looks like this.

Vyvojova Opticka Dilna Akademie Ved CR (Development Optical Workshop of Czech Academy of Science) makes high-quality (and thus expensive) paraboloid mirror, lenses and filters.
