Subject: Bell Grand Jury

This morning I testified before a Grand Jury in Western Washington District Court, Seattle, which is investigating Jim Bell for interstate stalking of federal officials.

The testimony concerned what I knew about alleged CIA employee Mueller and Jim's alleged gathering of personal information about this person.

I provided the Grand Jury my messages to cypherpunks about this topic which are the only documents I had to offer in response to the subpoena.

AUSA Robb London conducted most of the questioning, with some questions from the jury.

Robb said I was not a target of an investigation but my testimony and/or perjury could change that.

I will attempt to get a transcript of my testimony and put it on Cryptome. Robb said that is doable but it will take a judge's order to release.

Robb said Jim is still in evaluation to determine his  fitness to represent himself. A trial date will not be set until the evaluation is completed and the judge decides.

Jeff Gordon was in the grand jury suite but did not attend the hearing.

Re Grand Jury Testimony of John Young, January 25, 2001

Dear Grand Jury Foreman and Mr. London,

I made an error during my testimony about not making public the address of Deforest X. Mueller. Upon checking my message to the cypherpunks mail list of October 25, 2000 -- part of the material I submitted to the grand jury -- I see that Mueller's address in Bend, OR, is given in that message as obtained from a public registry. I apologize for the error.

As discussed with Mr. London prior to the hearing, I would like to purchase a transcript of my testimony and now make that request to you. If this request should be made directly to the court reporter, I would appreciate getting an address or phone number for the reporter. My intention is to publish the testimony on my Web site, Cryptome.org.

Re Grand Jury Testimony of John Young, January 25, 2001

Dear Grand Jury Foreman and Mr. London,

This re-affirms my letter to you of January 27 and my phone message left for Mr. London on February 12 requesting a purchase of a transcript of my grand jury testimony on January 25, 2001.

I spoke on February 12 to the magistrate's office and court reporters office and was told that Mr. London must grant approval for release of the transcript.

Your assistance in making this purchase would be most appreciated.

John Young: "Another subpoena was served on me today by Treasury Agent Tom Jack to appear at Jim Bell's trial on April 2, 2001 9:00 AM, in Tacoma, WA. I have tried three times to get a transcript of my grand jury testimony: faxed letter to the Grand Jury Foreman and AUSA Robb London January 27; a phone message left for Robb on February 12, and another faxed letter to Robb and the Foreman on February 20 with copy to Judge Tanner, presiding in Jim's case. No answer to any of the 3 requests -- except today's subpoena dated February 21."
