JL Naudin comments : You may notice that :

• When the transistor Q1 is closed (ON state), the bifilar coil composed of L1/L2 acts as a NON INDUCTIVE device ( like a simple resistor, in appearance ), the magnetic field exists but it is "stressed" inside the coil, thus there is no time constant (tau=L/R) in the circuit ( see the scope picture ).
• When the transistor Q1 is opened (OFF state), a BackEMF energy is produced by L2 into the load resistor R3 ( see the scope picture ). By this way you are able to tap free energy from the BackEmf created when the "stressed magnetic field" collapses.
