Fundraising Policies and Procedures
Since 1996, Oregon State University, Linus Pauling's undergraduate alma mater, has been proud to be the home of the institute that he founded. The university provides the Linus Pauling Institute with facility and other overhead costs, meaning that more of every donated dollar to the Institute goes directly to research. The OSU Foundation, the nonprofit chartered to raise and administer funds for the university, is also the parent charity and fiscal agent for the Institute.
Mission
The Development/Fundraising mission of the Institute is to identify and generate private gifts to honor Linus Pauling and to sustain premier laboratory research into the role of micronutrients, phytochemicals, and microconstituents of foods in maintaining good health and preventing and treating disease.
Policies
- All gifts to the Institute are made through the 501(c)(3) Oregon State University Foundation in Corvallis, Oregon.
- All gifts will be deposited into the LPI Research Innovation Fund to support LPI's research and educational activities unless otherwise stipulated by the donor.
- All estate and other one-time gifts are held in reserve and used at the discretion of the Institute's Director and his/her Advisory Boards for one-time, special expenses.
- Donor preferences are followed as far as possible, without deviation. Should that be impossible, the donor or his/her representative are asked for permission to redirect or reallocate said gifts.
- Linus Pauling Institute donors are NOT prospects for general support of Oregon State University and will not be asked to support other OSU programs, unless the donor has specifically indicated such interest.
- The Institute does not participate in telephone solicitations.
- Linus Pauling Institute donor names are protected and are NOT shared with, or sold to, outside organizations.
