as far as i can tell, the ISO specification
seems to be silent on the actual units of XAG/XAU/XPD/XPT.
does anyone have the real spec?
the closest i can get is:

neither mention ounces/grams/tonnes etc.

also notice that the "minor unit" column for the metal currencies
is listed as "N.A." - this column seems to be the number of
decimal places used with the currency, i.e. for dollars
it is 2, for most franc/yen/won it is 0, iraqi dinar is 3.
this adds to the possibility that the X** currencies are
ambiguously defined in the standard.
